Woman Arrested in Islamabad for Allegedly Torturing 13-Year-Old Maid

1 min read

Police in the G-15 sector of Islamabad have apprehended a woman on allegations of subjecting her 13-year-old domestic helper to torture.

As stated by law enforcement officials, the accused individual, who is linked with an online business enterprise, was detained based on accusations raised by the maid’s mother, Khalida Bibi, hailing from Chiniot in Punjab.

The accused was brought before a magistrate’s court and subsequently sent to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi under judicial custody. The Tarnol police have filed charges against the woman under sections 328-A (cruelty to a child), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the girl, named Andaleeb Fatima, had been employed as a domestic helper at the accused woman’s residence for the past month. On August 16, Andaleeb’s mother arrived in Islamabad to check on her daughter, as she had been unresponsive to phone calls.

Upon meeting her daughter, the mother discovered visible injuries on various parts of Andaleeb’s body. The girl recounted to her mother that her employer used to physically assault her and subject her to torment with a heated spoon.

Subsequently, the employer confined Andaleeb and her mother to a room, coercing them into silence. Eventually, the woman permitted them to depart the premises without providing the maid’s wages.

The girl has been transferred to a hospital for a medical examination, with the results still pending.

This incident was reported by the Daily Dawn on August 17, 2023.
