A team of experts from all provinces and federating units has prepared and endorsed a national curriculum for grades 9 to 12, which will soon be presented to the education minister for final approval. The national curriculum for grades 1 to 8 is already in place in most provinces, except for Sindh. However, experts from Sindh have also endorsed the curriculum for grades 9 to 12. It is expected that students in these grades will have access to new textbooks aligned with the new curriculum from the next academic session.
Federal Secretary of Education, Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, stated that this curriculum represents a minimum standard, and provinces have the flexibility to add to it as per their needs and publish their own textbooks. The final approval for the agreed-upon curriculum for grades 9 to 12 will be given by Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, who will chair the National Curriculum Council (NCC) meeting on 13 April 2023. According to the official, the publication of books will begin in Islamabad, and after receiving formal approval from their respective competent forums, provinces will also start publishing books. The official also mentioned that as the Sindh government has endorsed the curriculum for secondary and higher secondary schools, there is a possibility that they may also adopt the curriculum for other classes.
