SWABI: Construction work on the much-awaited government high school in the Besak area of Gadoon Amazai region here has been launched, and it is expected to be completed next year if there is no paucity of funds, sources in the communication and works department told Dawn here on June 27.

The girls’ high school had been a longstanding demand of the people, who said 98 per cent of girls left education after passing eighth grade.

The sources said the project’s cost was Rs50 million, adding that MPA from the region, Rangaiz Khan, was striving to complete it as soon as possible.

When contacted, Rangaiz Khan told Dawn that with the completion of the school, the girls would get a better educational environment and modern facilities, which would help promote literacy in the area.

“I have directed the authorities to complete the work within the stipulated time,” he said.

He reiterated his resolve that practical steps would be taken for the development of the area and the improvement of the education sector.

Meanwhile, Saddam Jadoon, a leader of the United Gadoon Organisation, said that they have continued their struggle to establish a girls’ degree college in the Gadoon region because the girls were suffering due to a lack of higher education facilities.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday, he said leaders of the organisation would launch a campaign for the degree college in the area.
