1 min read

PESHAWAR: Chairman of Frontier Foundation, Sahibzada Muhammad Haleem, has said that a lack of awareness about genetic diseases, delayed and limited access to screening and treatment, and the high rate of consanguineous marriages significantly increase the risk of thalassemia and other hereditary disorders.

He said that eliminating thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder, was their mission to protect future generations, said a press release. Speaking during a meeting with parents of children suffering from thalassemia, Sahibzada Haleem stated that the genetic nature of thalassemia was the leading cause of its high prevalence, as many carriers remain unaware that they are transmitting the disease to their children.

He stressed the need to address the factors contributing to the spread of the disease to safeguard the next generations. Sahibzada Haleem added that the awareness campaigns organized by the institution aimed to educate the public and curb the transmission of thalassemia.
