Summer Camps Set Up For School Children In Kohistan

MANSEHRA: The education department has established summer camps for schoolchildren who have migrated to the mountainous Spat Valley in Upper Kohistan district.

“We have set up five camps where children from 10 schools can continue learning during the summer season,” deputy commissioner Tariq Ali Khan told a meeting in his office in the district headquarters Dasu.

With Mr Khan in the chair, the meeting of the District Schools Coordination Committee decided in principle about the continued provision of educational opportunities for children who migrated with their families to the summer destinations in the district.

The DC said that it was highly encouraging to see the education department, in collaboration with the district administration, successfully establish summer camps in Vitari, Neli Bari, Barubag and Shimatabad where schoolchildren had started attending classes regularly.

“We have provided tents, mats and other necessary items to ensure smooth functioning of these summer camps,” he said.

Mr Khan said the weather in the valley was pleasant, so classes were conducted in open, lush-green spaces where boys and girls who migrated from urban and lower parts of the district regularly received formal education.

“Children from indigenous communities are also attending summer camps, which is a very positive sign. We believe where there are children, there should be schools,” he said.

The DC said that the district administration was committed to working for people’s development through education and was striving to achieve that goal with the resources available.
