PESHAWAR: The government has launched a dedicated fleet of 42 specialised ambulances to provide timely and safe medical services to pregnant women and newborns in tribal districts of Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan.

The service was formally inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Aqibullah Khan at the provincial headquarters of Rescue 1122 here on Monday.

The director general of Rescue 1122, Shah Fahad, briefed the minister on the operational framework of Rescue 1122, its emergency response systems and the scope and objectives of the newly-launched maternal and neonatal ambulance service, a press release said.

He informed the minister that the specialised ambulances were designed and equipped specifically to serve pregnant women and newborns, with a primary focus on remote and underserved communities where access to immediate medical care remained a critical challenge.

Each ambulance has been fitted with advanced lifesaving equipment, including incubators, oxygen support systems, delivery kits, suction machines and patient monitoring devices, along with other essential medical tools required to manage obstetric and neonatal emergencies.

Trained medical personnel will accompany every ambulance to ensure that both mother and child receive prompt and professional care throughout the transportation process. The minister said that maternal and child health remained among government’s foremost priorities. He said that the initiative would play a significant role in improving access to essential healthcare services in tribal districts.

He said that Rescue 1122 would not only ensure timely medical intervention but would also contribute meaningfully to reducing complications during childbirth and preventing the loss of precious lives in some of the province’s most vulnerable communities.
