Post-mortem Reveals Haripur Girl’s Rape

HARIPUR: The post-mortem of a five-year-old girl has revealed her rape before the body’s disposal in an unused well here.

The post-mortem report, a copy of which is available with Dawn, said the girl was sexually assaulted, while her both thigh bones were fractured.

It said that the cause of death was excessive bleeding, which might have occurred before the girl was thrown into the well. The post-mortem was conducted under the supervision of senior gynecologist Dr Shagufta Altaf.

The report said that the body was decomposing with the skin falling, but the x-ray of the bones showed that the neck bone remained unfractured despite the girl falling down into the well from a height of about 50 feet.

Meanwhile, the doctors have collected samples from the girl’s body for DNA testing and forensic analysis, and handed them over to the police for further proceedings, according to MS Dr Munawar Afridi.

The girl, the daughter of a daily-wage worker, went missing from outside her house on August 10. Her body was found in an unused well of a warehouse, which stands at around a furlong’s distance from her house, on August 24. The body was recovered after one of the four detained accused led the police to the crime scene.

According to police, one of the accused, 18, had told a duty magistrate that he and Talha, a local seminary’s student, sexually molested the girl one after the other.

He, however, didn’t disclose where they left the girl and whether the other two accused, also teenagers, assaulted the girl.

After a hectic search, collection of the records of several CCTV cameras and geofencing of the area, the police succeeded in tracing the fourth accused, 11, from Nowshera, who lives in the same Pathan Colony.

Police said that boy took the investigators to the well from where the police and rescue officials retrieved the body and shifted it to the Trauma Centre where an eight-member board of doctors conducted the post-mortem on the partially decomposed body.

That accused was produced before the area magistrate who sent him to the jail on remand.

A member of the investigation team told Dawn that the fourth accused lured the girl to follow him if she wanted to see her father waiting at a distance. When contacted, DPO Shafiullah Gandapur said he had sought the formation of a panel of prosecutors to scrutinise the case and determine whether the Anti-Terrorism Act’s section could be incorporated.

“All accused are in the 10-18 age group, so the situation calls for strictly following the legal provisions,” he said.

The DPO said the investigation was still under way as the police were trying to dig deeper into the case.
