BAHAWALPUR: Police claimed on March 30 that a suspect, who had allegedly raped and murdered a minor boy, was killed during an “encounter” in the limits of Hasilpur city police station.
According to a Bahawalpur district police spokesperson, three suspects allegedly opened fire on a police patrolling team, which intercepted them for their identification.
The police returned the fire and during the shootout one of the suspects was killed, allegedly in the firing by his own accomplices, who fled the scene under the cover of darkness.
According to the police, the dead suspect was identified as Sajjad, who was wanted for rape and murder of a nine-year-old boy, Tauqeer Asghar.
The police are conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, in another “encounter” held near 261/EB village in Burewala Saddar police limits, the patrolling police allegedly exchanged fire with two suspects riding a motorcycle.
As a result, one of the suspects suffered injuries “in the firing by his own accomplice.”
The injured suspect arrested by the police was identified as Qamar Zaman, a resident of 28/14 village located near Chichawatni.
After scrutiny of police records, the suspect was found allegedly involved in as many as 19 cases of dacoity and robbery registered in different police stations. A snatched motorcycle, along with illegal weapons were recovered from the suspect.
SHO Mahar Muhammad Abbas says the injured man was shifted to hospital for medical treatment, while a case against his fleeing accomplice was registered.
