In a disturbing incident of domestic abuse, a 17-year-old, also the mother of a minor baby girl, was murdered in Karachi’s Afghan Basti allegedly by her own family members.

The incident took place near Afghan Chowk within the limits of the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, police intervened just in time to stop a secret burial, arresting the girl’s father at the scene, while her husband and other suspects fled and are currently being sought.

The murdered woman was identified as 17-year-old Aram Bibi, wife of Muhammad Afghani. Police received a tip-off that the woman’s husband, father Yaseen and other suspects had tortured and killed her and were attempting to bury her quietly to cover up the crime.

Acting swiftly, police arrived at the scene just before the burial could take place. A grave had already been prepared when the police team came. During the raid, police arrested the victim’s father while her husband and other suspects fled. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend the remaining culprits.

Police said signs of severe torture were found on the body that was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The initial investigations revealed that Aram Bibi had been married off at a young age and was the mother of a baby girl. Police believe the murder was the result of a domestic dispute. A post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, after which a formal FIR would be registered.
