1 min read

KARACHI:

An allegedly mentally unstable woman tossed her three young daughters into an underground water storage tank before jumping in herself in a tragic incident that happened in Bakhtawar Goth, Sukhan, on 12-September-2024.

The mother and two of the girls drowned, while the third daughter managed to survive, according to local police.

Police said that the deceased woman, identified as 35-year-old Shamaila, took her daughters, two-year-old Yusra, four-year-old Rohab, and seven-year-old Sara, to the water tank under the pretext of showing them fish.

After pushing them in, she jumped in as well. However, Sara managed to climb out of the tank and alert others by knocking on the door, police added.

A polio team rushed to the site and helped retrieve the bodies.

Shamaila, who was reportedly mentally ill, had made similar horrific attempts in the past too, but her children had been saved in those attempts.

The family hails from Swat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Shamaila’s husband, Ali Rehman, who works as a garbage picker, was immediately not available for comments..

Police confirmed the woman’s mental instability and are continuing investigations into the case. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to JPMC for further legal procedures.
