Three Women Killed, Teen Girl Injured In Bhittaiabad Attack

1 min read

A horrific triple murder took place on September 11 in Bhittaiabad, within the jurisdiction of the Malir Cantonment police station where three women were killed with a sharp weapon.

According to police, a minor girl, her maternal uncle — who is believed to be the suspect — and a female neighbour were also injured in the incident and taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. The deceased were identified as Tania, Aashi and Naina, while the injured included 16-year-old Nandini and Ajay Ram, 32.

Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Abdul Khaliq immediately reached the scene, where crime scene and technical teams collected evidence. Police suspect the killings may have been linked to a domestic dispute or personal enmity, but said all possible angles were being investigated.

Initially, police suspected Ajay Ram who was believed to have attacked the women with a knife. On the Malir SSP’s directives, special joint teams have been formed to trace and arrest the culprits as soon as possible.

Malir Cantonment SHO Abdul Rasheed Pathan said while speaking to The News that the attack occurred between 10am and 11am. He said police had recorded the statement of the injured girl, though her condition remained critical. In her initial account, she told police that her maternal uncle Ajay Ram fatally stabbed his two sisters and the sister-in-law who managed to escape the house in a severely injured condition.

According to the SHO, when a neighbour, 30-year-old Priya, wife of Vijay, came to the house during the attack, the suspect also assaulted her, leaving her injured. Police confirmed that all three women had deep knife wounds in their necks.

The SHO said that Aashi and Tania, along with the injured Nandini, were sisters, aged between 20 and 22 years, while Nandini was around 16. Their sister-in-law Naina was also among the deceased. At the time of the attack, only the suspect and the women were at home, while the girls’ mother was away at work in a nearby school and Naina’s husband Shan was also at work.

The SHO said the suspect had been living with the family. The suspect was also under treatment under the police custody. He had been unemployed for a long period. The SHO said that according to initial statements from Nandini and the neighbouring injured woman, the suspect slit his own throat after attacking the women in an apparent suicide attempt. However, he stressed that nothing could be confirmed as the investigation was still at an early stage. On the question of drug use, SHO Pathan said the family claimed the suspect was not an addict.
