KOHAT: Around 4,000 students from Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Teerah, Shakardarra and Darra Adamkhel, who have changed schools, have accused the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat, of not allowing them to sit their 9th and 10th grade exams in their new institutions.
In a statement issued here, they stated that they were charged Rs1,500 each as a migration fee.
The upcoming board exams for 9th and 10th grades are scheduled from March 31 to April 20.
The students alleged that the Kohat BISE was forcing them to take exams in their old schools despite the fact that they had already migrated from these institutions.
The students demanded that they be allotted the new examination centres, or their migration fees be returned.
When contacted, Imtiaz Ayub, chairman of Kohat BISE, told Dawn that students wanted the centres of their choice, where they could easily indulge in cheating.
He said he had rejected the migration of such students. However, he said if a student had a genuine reason, he could be accommodated.
He said since taking office two months ago, he had aimed to discourage cheating in exams by keeping a strict watch on superintendents, invigilators and students.
Mr Ayub said that these students had to appear in exams in their previous schools, adding he would not succumb to any pressure tactic.
