STEVTA Launches Skills Programme for Juvenile Prisoners

1 min read

The Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at rehabilitating juvenile prisoners through modern skills training. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between STEVTA and the Tasawwur-e-Umeed Foundation at the Central Jail Karachi to formalise the collaboration.

Following the signing ceremony, Junaid Buland, special assistant to the chief minister of Sindh and STEVTA chairperson, visited the central prison to meet incarcerated children. He announced that over 24,000 juvenile prisoners across 14 jails in Sindh would receive technical training to help them secure respectable employment upon release.

“We are launching a transformative programme to equip these children with modern skills,” Buland stated. “Under the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative, more than 17 technical fields are being activated, offering a range of vocational and technical courses.”

He emphasised that skill development was the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and crime. “By empowering juvenile prisoners with employable skills, we are transforming them into productive members of society,” he said.

Paying tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Buland highlighted her vision of public empowerment through education and skills. “This initiative was pioneered by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and today, it is being realised under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” he remarked.
