Sixth Grader Injured After Being Hit By Teacher At School

PESHAWAR: Beaten by his teacher with stick right on his eyebrow, Hamza Hussain, a grade six student at a historical school here on 14 January 2024, had to have multiple stitches, setting a new example of corporal punishment.

Father of the wounded student told The News that he was shocked to see his son having plaster on his forehead and his uniform stained with blood. “I was there to pick him after school,” he said. He said that a classmate of his son told him that a teacher had hit him with a stick. He said that he went straight to the office of the principal to register a complaint. He said that the principal was apologetic and assured him to conduct an inquiry into the matter. “The principal was so nice and he met me despite having health issues,” he said, adding that when he reached home and he examined the wound it was so deep and blood was still oozing from it.

Being a pediatrician at the city’s largest public sector hospital, Hamza’s father took him to hospital as his wound needed several stitches. “This is intolerable. How can a teacher be so cruel to beat a child with a stick and that too on his face? The wound will recover by Allah’s will but the scar will never go,” he said. He called proper inquiry and exemplary punishment to the teacher concerned. Principal of the School Father Zeeshan responded to a voice message of this reporter and stated: “It’s not practice not personal grudge, rather it is strongly forbidden and I have talked with the father of that child.”
