Quack Among Others Booked After Woman, Newborn Die

TOBA TEK SINGH: Batala Colony police registered a murder case against six persons, including a woman posing as a doctor and her five accomplices in Faisalabad. Police arrested two of the suspects.

Reports said a woman and her newborn baby allegedly died due to the negligence of a quack in Faisalabad on May 30, prompting the deceased woman’s relatives to stage a protest outside a private facility, Abdul Shakoor Trust Hospital, located on Hilal Road near the sewerage water disposal station.

The protesters demanded the arrest of the quack and hospital staff allegedly involved in the incident.

According to the first information report registered under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, complainant Basharat Ali, a resident of Gulshan Ali Town, stated that he had taken his pregnant sister, Hira Bibi (29), to the hospital for delivery.

He alleged that after an initial examination, hospital staff informed the family that a lady doctor would soon arrive to perform a caesarean section. However, a woman identified as Dr Abida allegedly administered an injection to Hira Bibi, after which she lost consciousness.

The complainant further alleged that instead of providing medical treatment, Abida Sarwar and her accomplices shifted the unconscious woman out of the hospital on a stretcher. The family then took her to Allied Hospital, where doctors informed them that she had already died.

Police said Hira Bibi’s baby also could not survive.

Batala Colony police arrested Abida Sarwar and her alleged accomplice Muhammad Imran, while raids were underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
