RAWALPINDI: Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Shazia Rizwan on 24th October said parents should cooperate with anti-polio workers for a healthy and disability-free society.

Speaking as a chief guest at a walk arranged in connection with World Polio Day she said the Punjab government was committed to eradicating polio from the society.

The walk was organised by District Health Authority Rawalpindi.

The District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Asif Arbab Khan Niazi, and Coordinator UNICEF for Anti-Polio Program Dr Shamayla also attended the event.

She said polio workers are our real heroes. “Parents will give two drops of anti-polio vaccine to children. Parents should cooperate with anti-polio workers for a healthy and disability-free society,” she said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema said that all institutions should play their key role in making the five-day polio campaign starting from Oct 28 a success.

He said that our focus was on high-risk union councils and non-attended and rejection cases. He said that all departments concerned have implemented the anti-polio campaign under the coordinated links and effective strategy.

He said that a hundred percent implementation of the Union Council-wise micro plan should be ensured.

He expressed these views while presiding over the administrative review meeting of the polio campaign.

In the meeting, District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Asif Arbab Niazi, WHO representative Dr Shamayla, and officials from other relevant departments participated.

The meeting was informed that during the polio campaign, 998,924 children under five years of age will be given polio drops.
