SAHIWAL: Sixty non-Muslims twelfth grade students appearing in the subject of Civics of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Sahiwal, will get marks as per their previous class score due to the unavailability of the prescribed textbook in the market.

The decision in this regard was made during a meeting of the board of governors (BoG) chaired by Commissioner Asif Tufail who also holds the charge of the board chairman.

Fayyaz Saleemi, the secretary board, confirmed to Dawn that second-year students enrolled in this subject would be granted the same marks they received in their first-year examination.

He explained that the relevant textbooks from the Punjab Textbook Board were not available in the market, prompting the decision to award grace marks. Approximately, 60 non-Muslim students would benefit from this decision, according to BISE Controller Exams Naveed Azmat, who spoke to Dawn by phone.

Besides, all retired employees and regular employees of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Sahiwal will receive a 10pc increase in salaries and a 5pc increase in pensions starting next month.

This decision was also made during the meeting.

Mr Saleemi said 207 employees would benefit from the decision. During the meeting, Mr Tufail expressed displeasure at the delayed admissions of six female special students and 155 village-based female students for the 2025 Matric examination.

He directed the board administration to issue show-cause notices to the principals of Government Girls Higher Secondary School for Special Children, Farid Town, Sahiwal, and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Chak 45/12-L.
