MUZAFFARGARH: A man’s heartless act of hanging his child from a tree was thwarted as the child’s screams attracted locals who rescued him in Basti Makwal in the Shahjamal police area.

The police responded a call and saved the four-year-old boy’s life on the night of February 6.

Four-year-old Muhammad Wasay’s neck bore marks of the rope used in the attempt. The father, Jameel, took him to an orchard, tied a rope around his neck and hanged him. As the child cried out, locals informed the police, who acted immediately and arrested the suspect, a police spokesperson said.

The police also recovered the rope used in the crime. A case of attempted murder was registered against the suspect on the complaint of the police. The rescued child clung to the SHO, while a large number of citizens gathered at the police station to pay tribute to the police team.

According to the first information report, the child was hanged in a garden near his house. His cries alerted locals, ultimately saving his life.
