Couple, Minor Son Hacked To Death Over Free-will Marriage

1 min read

A couple and their minor son were found hacked to death inside their home in the Ghaghar Phatak area of Steel Town on 30-July-2025. Police said they were killed with a sharp-edged weapon, adding that the initial investigation suggests the motive was the couple’s free-will marriage.

Police identified the victims as Abdul Majeed, 45, Sakina, 40, and Abdul Nabi, 6. The family hailed from District Lasbela in Balochistan, and had been living in the house for the past eight months. Majeed worked as a labourer.

Police and rescue workers reached the crime scene, where a large number of locals had also gathered. The bodies were found inside the house. The Crime Scene Unit collected the forensic evidence, while the bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Steel Town SHO Aslam Baloch said the murders were committed late on Tuesday night. He said the couple had married for love approximately eight years ago, a decision that apparently angered the woman’s family.

SHO Baloch said Sakina’s brother is believed to be involved in the murders, along with accomplices. Sakina’s brother allegedly informed Majeed’s brother over the phone that he had killed the couple and their child, telling him to come collect the bodies for burial.

At the crime scene, police found two axes, which are believed to be the murder weapons, and other vital evidence. Police have launched an investigation and are trying to locate and arrest the suspects.

District Malir police chief SSP Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada also visited the crime scene to review the situation and order immediate action. Forensic and technical teams were deployed to collect evidence, while special joint police teams were constituted to track down the suspects.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar ordered a thorough investigation. He ordered ensuring the arrest of all those involved. He emphasised the importance of exploring all aspects of the case to ensure justice is served.

This is the second murder incident in Karachi over free-will marriage this week. On July 28, the bodies of Sajid Masih and Sana Asif, both from Gujranwala Division in Punjab, had been found near the China Port in Clifton.
