Child Protection Effort Unravels as Father Takes Children Back to Footpath

1 min read

KARACHI: A man who took his three children living in a shelter home, has brought them back to footpath. A 14-year-old Aisha is among the three children.

The Sindh Child Protection Authority, in an attempt to protect the children against seasonal hardships and social vulnerabilities, had taken the custody of the children and shifted them to the shelter home in Malir a weak ago.

The children were at high risk after their father handed over his fourth child, a 10-year-old boy, to a group of beggars near Kalapul.

Sindh Minister for Social Welfare, Mir Tariq Talpur had said earlier that his department would locate the fourth child soon and send him to the shelter home. However, his department or Sindh Child Protection Authority could not find the fourth child.

The father of the children, Amanullah Bozdar, who was a former police constable, told The Express Tribune that he had brought back his three children from the shelter home because they were not comfortable there. “It was like a small prison,” he said.

Syed Ghulam Murtaza Shah, an officer of the Social Welfare Department, however, refuted the allegation and said the shelter home, Malir, has a very good environment.
