The mystery surrounding the murder of a young girl in District Malir has been solved after an extensive police investigation, which revealed that the child was allegedly killed by her own aunt over domestic disputes and jealousy.
The shocking case had initially baffled investigators after the girl’s body was found wrapped in a sack inside the main gate of her family’s house. District Malir police chief Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said the case was one of the most challenging investigations undertaken by the district police. Senior police officers had also visited the crime scene soon after the body was discovered due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the incident.
SSP Pirzada said that suspicion initially fell on the members of the household because the body had been found within the premises of the house. Over 50 people were questioned during the investigation, and 15 plus DNA samples were collected from family members and other suspects. However, the investigation became more complicated when none of the DNA samples matched the evidence recovered from the victim’s body.
During the course of the investigation, police noticed contradictions in the statements of a suspect identified as Nadir, who appeared to have a close familial relationship with the victim. His inconsistent version of events prompted investigators to probe further, eventually uncovering the alleged role of the girl’s aunt.
SSP Pirzada said the aunt allegedly murdered the child due to domestic disputes and jealousy. Police said the suspect reportedly resented the affection and attention the young girl received from other family members.
Investigators also revealed that the suspect’s two children are special children, and this family situation is believed to have contributed to her resentment toward the victim. Police claimed that after the murder, the woman’s brother assisted her in the attempt to conceal the crime. The victim’s body was reportedly kept inside a room before both suspects tried to dispose of it.
However, when they failed to find a suitable opportunity, they allegedly left the body wrapped in a sack inside the house. The suspect also allegedly instructed her brother to portray the incident as a case of rape in an attempt to mislead investigators.
SSP Pirzada clarified that the woman’s husband had no role in the crime. He also criticised the lack of cooperation from some family members during the investigation, saying that the case could have been solved much earlier if police had received full support.
He said investigations are still under way, so more suspects can emerge, stressing that police would ensure that all those involved are brought to justice and awarded the maximum punishment under the law.
