ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Federal Education on 28th January announced getting help from a US-based academy to introduce Khanmigo, an AI-powered tutor, in government middle schools in the capital city.

“This innovative collaboration aims to provide personalised learning experiences for students with the added benefit of supporting learning in Urdu,” said a press release.

It said teacher training programmes will be launched, equipping them with the skills to guide students in using the AI tutor effectively.

Once teachers are on board, students will be introduced to the Khabwigo platform, where they’ll have access to tailored learning tools and resources.

“The AI tutor will help students learn at their own pace, filling knowledge gaps and reinforcing concepts in an engaging, interactive way. This initiative has the potential to revolutionise education in Islamabad, making learning more accessible, enjoyable, and effective. With Khan Academy’s expertise and the Ministry’s support, students and teachers can look forward to a more innovative and inclusive learning environment.”

An official of the education ministry said Khan Academy was a US-based firm founded by a Bangladeshi Muslim. Its Pakistan office is coordinating with the education ministry to provide free services in those schools which are equipped with IT labs. The official said that around 50pc of schools in Islamabad had IT labs.
