A two-year-old boy who was kidnapped from a private housing society within the jurisdiction of the Manghopir police station on July 18 was recovered safely from Gharo in Thatta district and reunited with his parents following a joint operation by Karachi and Thatta police.
Speaking to reporters, SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi said the child, identified as Azaan, son of Wahab Ali, was rescued during a coordinated operation after investigators traced ransom calls to Gharo.
The SSP said police obtained CCTV footage of the kidnapping suspect soon after the incident, enabling investigators to widen the scope of the inquiry. A kidnapping case was registered and a full-scale investigation was launched.
He said the District West technical investigation team began working on the case immediately after the child’s abduction. During the investigation, the victim’s father received a ransom call, prompting police to carry out technical analysis of the phone number used by the caller.
According to SSP Mastoi, the child’s father received additional calls from another number on Sunday night. By Monday morning, investigators had gathered further information from the family, while the technical investigation team developed fresh leads.
The investigation revealed that the ransom calls originated from Gharo in Thatta district. Acting on the intelligence, District West police dispatched a special team to Gharo, where the technical investigation team had already arrived.
SSP Mastoi said District West police coordinated closely with the SSP Thatta and received assistance from the local police. The joint operation resulted in the safe recovery of the child, who was subsequently reunited with his parents. Police said efforts were continuing efforts to arrest all suspects involved in the kidnapping, while further investigation into the case was underway.
