KASUR: Seven children showing measles symptoms were hospitalised on Mar 16, belonging to Veerkay Nau village near Talwandi in Chunian tehsil, where locals say no one has ever been vaccinated against the contagious disease.

As per local sources, the cases surfaces when a doctor, who was no a private visit to the village, notices some children of the host family with measles symptoms.

He was alarmed to know that the entire population of the village was unvaccinated, as it had never been visited by any vaccinating team, according to locals.

After examining the affected children, the doctor informed the health authorities concerned regarding the situation.

The affected children were Fahad, 2, Ahad, 5, Irha Bibi, 3, Shahzain, 5, and Aroosha Bibi, 3.

On being alerted, a health department team arrived at the village and examined other children in the community, tracing two more children Horain, 4, and Zeshan, 5 with measles symptoms.

The health team later called Rescue 1122 teams that shifted these children to the Chunian Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where they are being provided medical care.

The surfacing of the suspected measles cases in the village has sparked a wave of anxiety in the area, where people have demanded establishment of medical camps on emergency basis, to examine and vaccinate the children.
