KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday sent a man to prison on judicial remand in a case pertaining to possession and transmission of child sexual abuse material on WhatsApp.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had initiated an inquiry on a complaint filed by one of its officials, following a report from the National Centre for Missing and Exploitation (NCMEC).

The complainant had claimed that the suspect possessed and shared `child pornographic content` through a social media platform.

Acting on the complaint, the NCCIA team raided a place in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block-19, on March 15 and apprehended the suspect and seized his mobile phone.

According to the FIR, the initial report revealed that an email address and a mobile number were used to commit the offence.

On Monday, investigating officer Ameer Khoso brought the suspect before Judicial Magistrate (East) Gulraiz Memon.

At the proceeding, IO Khoso informed the court that during the interrogation, it was revealed that at least 49 complaints have been registered at NCMEC against the suspect.

Regarding the modus operandi, the IO added that the suspect was part of multiple WhatsApp groups which included members from Pakistan as well as foreign nationals. In these groups, child pornographic material was being shared.

After hearing the IO and examining the remand papers, the court sent the suspect to prison on judicial remand.

In its order, the court noted that the suspect did not report any maltreatment at the hands of the NCCIA. It added that during the proceedings, the IO informed the court that he had seized all the gadgets and did not require the suspect`s physical custody.

The case was registered at the Cyber Crime Reporting Cricle of NCCIA under Section 22 (child pornography) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
