Admin Comes to the Rescue of Boy Who Lost Family

RAHIM YAR KHAN: The district administration has opted for a unique approach to compensate a child who lost his family during the recent floods.

According to details, Muhammad Rehan was saved by rescuers when the boat carrying him, along with his mother and sister, capsized during evacuations in Mouza Noorwala in Liaquatpur tehsil on Sept 8. However, Rehan’s only remaining immediate family, his mother Rafia Bibi and sister Ruqaiya Bibi, could not survive the accident.

The compensation in such a tragedy is usually handed over to the heirs, and after the boat tragedy, Rehan’s uncle demanded the compensation money. However, Rahim Yar Khan Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez opted a special long-term financial model to safeguard the future of Rehan.

As per the model, an amount of Rs 2 million as compensation money will be deposited in a fixed bank account in the name of Rehan. This amount could not be withdrawn for 20 years until Rehan matures.

During this period, the monthly profit from the capital amount will be handed over to his guardian for Rehan’s accommodation, education and other needs.

Locals of the area appreciated the decision of the district administration for its consideration of the child’s well-being and long-term financial security.
