Two Children Die, Over 20 Injured As Madrasa Roof Collapses In Tando Jam

Hyderabad: At least two children died on 26-June-2025 evening in a tragic incident in the Tando Jam town near Hyderabad where the roof of a madrasa collapsed during a thunderstorm.

Over 20 other children were reportedly injured as a result of the roof collapse. The casualties were reported from the Madrassah Farooqi located in Muzaffarabad Colony of Tando Jam. A sudden downpour accompanied by strong winds caused the roof to cave in, burying more than 20 children studying at the madrasa under the rubble.

Local residents immediately launched a rescue operation on a self-help basis, transporting the injured to the Tando Jam Rural Health Centre (RHC). Later, Rescue 1122 teams arrived and shifted the trapped students from the debris to nearby hospitals.

Seventeen injured children were later shifted to Civil Hospital Hyderabad through ambulances and private vehicles. According to a list released by the Civil Hospital Hyderabad, two children Zain, son of Rashid Sultan, aged 7, and Waheed Pathan, son of Rehmat, aged 8, were brought in dead.

Several other children, aged between 8 and 13, sustained serious injuries and are currently under treatment. Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro visited the Civil Hospital to enquire after the injured children. He was accompanied by the deputy commissioner, municipal commissioner and other officials.

The mayor expressed grief over the loss of young lives, offered condolences to the bereaved families and instructed the hospital administration to provide the best medical care to the injured.

Elsewhere in Hyderabad, the first pre-monsoon rain turned into chaos due to poor urban drainage. Despite advance warnings from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Water & Sanitation Agency (Wasa) failed to clean the city’s drains, causing severe flooding on major roads.

The storm also resulted in widespread power outages, with over 80 per cent of the power feeders in City, Qasimabad, Latifabad, Hussainabad, SITE Area, Fatah Chowk, and Old City going offline during the heavy rain and wind.
