LAHORE: In a significant move to prioritise and address children’s rights, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has announced the formation of the first-ever Parliamentary Caucus for Child Rights in the provincial assembly.

The initiative aims to establish a collaborative platform to address pressing issues related to children’s welfare and rights across the province.

The caucus will be led by MPA Sarah Ahmad, who has been appointed as the convener of the committee, which includes prominent figures like Zakia Khan, Mehwish Sultana, Salma Saeed, Rukhsana Kosar and others, reflecting a diverse representation.

Speaker Khan will serve as the patron of the caucus, providing guidance and oversight to ensure the group achieves its objectives effectively.

One of the core responsibilities of the caucus will be to carry out regular activities, discussions, and deliberations on child-related issues. The committee will compile its recommendations into detailed reports, which will be presented to the Punjab Assembly for consideration and implementation.

Ms Ahmad thanked the speaker and secretary of the assembly for entrusting her with this important responsibility.
