Govt to provide eyeglasses, hearing aids to 700,000 schoolchildren

LAHORE: The Punjab government will provide eyeglasses and hearing aids to 700,000 students having weak eyesight or hearing disability in the province.

`The students in the schools across Punjab will be subjected to medical check-up of their eyesight and hearing abilities. Those students having weak eyesight and hearing disabilities will be provided with spectacles and hearing aids. The screening process in the government and private schools across Punjab will be launched soon,` Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was told during a meeting with a delegation of AT scale that would provide Rs500m financial assistance in this regard.

The matters related to the steps being taken to meet nutritional needs of the schoolchildren also came under review.

`At first a government school for the children suffering from autism in Punjab will be established in Lahore. It is the right of every child to attain education according to international standards, the chief minister said.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz held a meeting with Benedik Aneselmann, the regional executive vice president of TUV Rheinland Company, Germany. The matters related to the provision of their technical assistance for welfare projects in Punjab, including third-party monitoring, project management, certification and auditing of development projects were discussed. She invited the company to benefit from the rich business opportunities in Punjab.

Benedik Aneselmann assured the CM of his support for the welfare projects in Punjab. The meeting decided to collaborate for making the monitoring of development projects more effective with the use of modern technology. It was also agreed to provide technical assistance and expertise for the successful completion of projects in Punjab.

Mr Aneselmann expressed his determination to play a constructive role in this regard.

The CM appreciated the commitment of TUV Rheinland for providing innovation and sustainable solutions in Punjab.
