432 Kidnapping, Sexual Assault Cases reported in Islamabad in Five Months

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have registered at least 432 cases of “sexual assault” and “kidnapping” in the federal capital under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) during the first five months of this year, Dawn has learnt.

According to the police sources privy to the data, a total of 55 cases of “sexual assault” have been registered during the said period.

In one of the kidnapping cases, the victim was kidnapped from Islamabad and was later found murdered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Out of the total 55 sexual assault cases, 15 were reported in the Soan Zone, followed by 13 in Sadar Zone, 12 in Rural Zone, nine in Industrial Area Zone and six in City Zone. Besides, out of the total 377 kidnapping cases, 99 were registered in Sadar

Zone, followed by 89 in Soan Zone, 76 in Rural Zone and 44 in City Zone and 29 in Industrial Area Zone.

In one such case, three persons allegedly raped a boy in the area of Pindorian on February 28 and made the video of the offence.

The police also registered three cases under Section 375-A of the PPC in which three girls and a boy were the victims.

In one incident, a girl was reportedly gang-raped by five persons in the area of I-16 on March 19, while a boy was subjected to the same act by three persons in Sihala on March 31.

The police registered 24 cases under Section 376 of PPC. In these cases 15 girls, three women and a boy were the victims, including a 15-year-old boy victimised by two persons at gunpoint in Mehrban Town on April 15.

Similarly, as many as 10 cases were registered under Section 376-C in which eight girls and two boys were the victims.

According to the sources, the police registered 69 cases under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) in which 64 males and five females were kidnapped. In one incident, a man was abducted from outside of his house in Sector F-6/1 on May 4 and his body was later recovered from Mardan the next day.

Despite several attempts, no police official responded to the queries about high number of such cases in a short span of time.
