LAHORE: Lahore DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza claimed on July 31 that the police have solved the mystery surrounding the deaths of a US national woman and her three children in a house in a private housing society in Lahore.
US national Aleena (40) and her three children — Rehan (16), Aresha (11), and Arsal (6) — were found dead from suspected poisoning in their rented house in Valencia Town under mysterious circumstances on July 17.
Kahna police had initially taken Aleena’s husband Nasir into custody on suspicion, but he later turned out to be innocent during investigation. The polygraph test of Nasir also helped police to declare that he was not directly involved in the killing of his children and wife.
Quoting the final investigation report, the DIG told media persons on Friday that Aleena had mixed potassium cyanide into the ice cream, she had purchased from a local market, and served it to her three children on July 17. She later also took the poisoned ice cream herself to end her life as well. She had also offered the poisonous ice cream to her husband, but he refused to have it, he added.
To conclude the findings, the police obtained digital evidence, forensic reports, statements of Aleena’s husband and other family members.The DIG said Nasir, along with his wife and three children, had arrived in Lahore recently from the United States.
To a question, the officer said that according to the investigations finalised by the police, the woman was suffering from mental health issues.
“She had got the idea of committing the heinous crime from social media,” Raza said.
The officer further revealed that the woman had ordered the poisonous chemical online and gave the address of a friend’s residence for delivery of the parcel.
The police also tracked down and arrested a delivery boy who delivered the parcel and the man running an online chemical business, who provided the poisonous material to Aleena against Rs138,540.
The payment transfer record was also made a part of the investigation report, the DIG said, adding that the arrested suspects have been nominated in the case.
He said a strong case was being prepared to ensure exemplary punishment to the suspects by the court.
