RAWALPINDI: The Mandra police station has arrested the school student accused in the murder of a school van driver.

The accused, Syed Shujaat Hussain Shah, had killed 21-year-old van driver Zeeshan Safir two weeks ago after he had tried to stop him from harassing school-going girls. The police spokesperson said that the accused had shot and killed the school van driver, after which he had gone into hiding. He was traced and arrested on Friday.

The deceased earned his living by providing pick and drop facilities to local schoolgirls on a shift basis. On the day of the incident, when the children were dismissed around 12.15pm, Syed Shujaat Hussain, a student at the local school, came out with other children. On seeing the van driver, he said, “I am going to make you pay for complaining against me.” He then pulled out a gun in the presence of other people and opened fired. Two bullets hit the victim, seriously injuring him.

When the locals tried to catch the accused, he held up the pistol and threatened them before fleeing.

The injured was being taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital when he lost his life on the way. Doctors said that Zeeshan was hit by two bullets.
