Storm-hit School Provided Tents in Upper Kohistan

MANSEHRA: A government-run school in Shitial area of Upper Kohistan, which had been functioning in the open after its prefabricated structure was destroyed in a windstorm, has now been shifted to tents.

“We have provided tents to education department not only for this school but also for other institutions that were left without shelters after the August windstorm,” Upper Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan told journalists on November 18.

The primary school, which was operating on the premises of Government High School Shitial, was destroyed by the windstorm and had continued to operate under the open sky for months.

“I recently visited the school where students were still attending classes in the open. We have now provided the required tents. Continuing education in open is almost impossible become of severe cold, especially in the morning,” said Mr Khan.

He said that Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) supplied tents for schools and homes damaged during the natural calamity. He said that middle, primary and high schools relocated because of Dasu hydropower project were currently being accommodated in rented buildings.
