School Monitoring Mechanism Reviewed

Islamabad: Federal Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub reviewed the recently developed monitoring mechanism for Islamabad’s public schools and colleges.

Other participants of the review meeting included the FDE’s DG, Deputy DG and Director Monitoring, area education officers and other officials. FDE DDG (Head Monitoring Wing) Asif Iqbal gave a presentation on the activities of the Monitoring Wing and said the Monitoring Wing had been formally notified, and additional and new Deputy AEOs and Assistant AEOs had been appointed. Fuel budget has been allocated.

A comprehensive monitoring tool, complete with rubrics, has been developed to standardise school evaluations. Further, a digital monitoring portal to support real-time reporting and oversight is being developed to be launched in two weeks. Also, updated status on Parent Teacher Meetings, School Development Plans, and the School Management Committees (SMCs) was presented.

The secretary appreciated the progress and directed the relevant officials to ensure regular visits of schools and colleges using the recently developed monitoring tool, utilisation of IT resources and implementation of assessment framework to be also monitored, and refining of monitoring tool and making it adaptable for digitilisation.

He also ordered the start of the process to recruit monitoring and evaluation assistants, through outsourcing, based on the Punjab model, support for functional SMCs by the AEO offices and the reactivation of dormant SMCs, and updating of the School Development Plans by principals.

A follow-up meeting on the above decisions will be held soon to review progress. The secretary reiterated the ministry’s commitment to strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure accountability, improved service delivery and better quality of education across all institutions under the FDE.
