Private Schools Trouble Residents of Congested Areas

PESHAWAR: Private schools functioning in congested residential areas are creating multiple problems for the people residing in urban localities of the provincial capital.

The residents of such areas say that they face disturbance in the morning and departure time of students as vans many schools and vehicles of parents cause traffic mess on roads and streets outside private educational institutions. They say that private schools functioning in certain areas of University Town, Hayatabad, and Canal Town, Nasir Bagh Road, have caused severe hardships to people.

“In this connection, the residents of Canal Town, Nasir Bagh Road, have submitted an application with education department, requesting it to relocate private schools to some open areas in the larger interest of locals,” a resident of the area told Dawn.

He said that majority of the students enrolled in the schools in Canal Town were Afghans. It might pose potential security threat anytime, he added.

“One such school is located right in the heart of the residential neighbourhood in Canal Town, which creates noise and traffic congestion,” the resident of the area said.

A senior official of PSRA, when contacted, said that the authority could not take action against any private school for its establishment in congested areas. He said that it was the responsibility of tehsil administration to take action against such private schools.

“PSRA is responsible for any illegal action inside school’s building or on its premises,” he said. He added that the residents of respective localities often complained about traffic congestions caused establishment of private schools in residential areas.

The official said that there should be proper traffic plan with each private school to avoid mess in relevant areas.
