Poliovirus Cripples Child In Bannu

In a latest case of poliovirus, a 33-month-old boy has been crippled in district Bannu, raising Pakistan’s polio case count to 12 for the year.

According to the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the NIH Islamabad, the recent case from Union Council Shamsikhel, District Bannu, is the sixth polio case from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa this year.

As many as 12 cases of poliovirus have been reported in 2025, including six from K-P, four from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and G-B.

While nationwide polio eradication efforts continue, the southern districts of K-P remain areas of concern.
