Police Evacuate 348,907 Flood-hit People

LAHORE:On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, rescue and relief operations of Punjab Police in flood-affected areas are continuing at a rapid pace.

Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, said that Safe City thermal imaging technology and drone cameras are being used to rescue people and livestock trapped in flood-affected areas. Punjab Police spokesperson while sharing details, said that so far Punjab Police have ensured the evacuation of 348,907 flood-affected people, including 136,540 men, 103,509 women, and 108,858 children. Moreover, 470,083 cattle worth millions of rupees have also been evacuated from flood-hit areas to safe places. IG Punjab directed the police to remain on high alert in view of the flood situation in Shahdara, Multan, Kasur, Vehari, Lodhran, Mailsi, and other affected districts across the province, and to increase security, surveillance, and patrolling in the evacuated areas. He said Punjab Police, in the face of the recent extraordinary flood situation, are working shoulder-to-shoulder with other institutions for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of the affected people.

He paid tribute to the police officers and personnel who demonstrated extraordinary courage and bravery to save precious human lives. IG Punjab directed the officers to ensure the provision of security, shelter, medicines, food, and all necessities of life in flood relief camps.

148 POs arrested in sweep, combing operations

In view of upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), Punjab Police have been carrying out search, sweep and combing operations across the province including Lahore. In continuation of this, during the last 24 hours, 507 combing operations were conducted, more than 17,209 suspects were checked, while 57 suspicious persons were taken into custody.

Punjab Police spokesperson said that during 27 search and sweep operations, more than 3,140 individuals were questioned and 2 suspicious persons were taken into custody. Moreover, 148 proclaimed offenders involved in serious crimes, 48 court absconders, and 22 habitual criminals were also arrested.

Over 1.136m obtain general verification

On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police KhidmatMarakaz are actively engaged in providing digital services to citizens.

In this continuity, so far this year more than 2.546 million citizens have availed policing services from the KhidmatMarakaz. Punjab Police spokesperson, while sharing details, said that more than 1.136 million citizens obtained general police verification, while more than 618,000 citizens obtained police character certificates. Similarly, more than 282,000 citizens carried out tenancy registration and more than 120,000 citizens obtained medico-legal certificates.

The spokesperson further said that under measures for vulnerable groups, 96,707 individuals were provided with legal and social protection. Moreover, 32,129 citizens obtained vehicle verification.
