Man held for ‘Drugging, Raping’ minor daughter

BAHAWALNAGAR: The Saddar police arrested a man on Feb 13, allegedly for drugging and raping his minor daughter at Haroonabad.

The FIR registered by the police on the complaint of the survivor’s mother, Tayyaba Kulsum, a resident of Chishtian, on Feb 12, says she married the suspect, ‘Z’, of Haroonabad about 17 years back and they had four children.

The complainant says that her husband had a criminal mindset and he spent most of his time at home after he sustained a bullet injury to his leg during a brawl around a year and a half ago.

As per the FIR, Tayyaba would support her family by sewing and doing needlework.

It says that 15-20 days back, when Tayyaba went to Chishtian to meet her parents, leaving her children with ‘Z’, the suspect allegedly raped their eldest minor daughter, ‘R’, after drugging her.

He also threatened to kill the minor girl if she told anybody about his crime, the FIR adds.

When Tayyaba returned home, she found her daughter in distress, and on her insistence ‘R’ disclosed to her mother on Feb 8 about the crime committed by ‘Z’.

Acting on the complaint, the Saddar police booked the suspect under section 376(3) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and started investigation.

However, police sources say that due to passage of so many days since the alleged crime was committed, the initial medical report did not corroborate with the rape accusation.

They say that during interrogation, the suspect denied having committed the crime, terming the rape allegation a conspiracy hatched against him by his wife.

However, a police spokesperson says that the case is being investigated on its merits.
