KP Govt to Hire Fresh Graduates to Supervise Matric Exam

PESHAWAR: Elementary and secondary education department has hired half of the invigilation staff from among the fresh graduates for the upcoming matric examinations with the resolve to save time of students studying in government schools.

So far, only teachers of government schools have been performing duty as invigilation staff in matriculation and intermediate examinations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The absence of the teachers, who perform duty at the examination centres, results in wastage of time of students in government schools, the secretary of elementary and secondary education department, Mohammad Khalid, told Dawn.

“In the upcoming matric examinations commencing on March 30, we have taken half of the invigilation staff from the teachers and half from fresh graduates,” he said.

Official says teachers will be taking classes in their respective schools instead of working as invigilators

He said there were eight boards of intermediate and secondary education in the province that conducted four examinations in a year two each of matric and intermediate including Annual-I and Annual-II during which hundreds of teachers performed supervisory duty.

Mr Khalid said that appointment of fresh graduates of colleges and universities in examination halls would definitely reduce the number of teachers involved in the process and they would be free to teach students in their respective schools.

The controller of Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Inamullah Shah, told Dawn that as per decision of the department, the board selected unemployed graduates to perform duty in the upcoming matric examinations.

“Peshawar education board has developed an App for graduates to apply and upload their credentials. About 6,200 interested graduates had applied and 1,250 of them were selected through a computerised draw,” he said.

He said that superintendents, deputy superintendents and teachers of government schools were also selected through the draw, which held on Tuesday. “The submission of character certificate from relevant university and college for each graduate was mandatory to avoid problematic invigilators,” he said.

Mr Shah said that the board would take action against the hired graduates if they were found involved in any unfair means during examinations. Even FIRs would be registered against such invigilators, he added.

He said that the board arranged training workshops for fresh graduates to inform them about as to how they would perform duty in examination halls.

They will be paid Rs1,500 for each paper as remuneration. In this way each of them will get around Rs30,000 for performing duty in examinations.

He said that messages were conveyed to selected graduates through their mobile phones. He said that the board nominated principals in different regions for verification of the documents of graduates and their physical fitness.

For Peshawar, three persons have been nominated as focal persons including the principal of Government Shaheed Mobecn Shah Afridi Higher Secondary School No.1, Ijaz Ali Khan, the principal of Government High School Shamshatoo, FR Peshawar, Shahi Mulk, and the vice principal of Government Shaheed Hasnain Sharif Higher Secondary School No.1 Peshawar City, Irfanullah.

For Charsadda district, the board has nominated four persons as focal persons including Azhar Jan, the principal of Government Girls High School Rajjar, Syed Tariq Shah, the principal of Government High School Shabqadar, Sadia Nazir, the vice principal of government Girls High School Shabqadar, Sohrab Ali, a senior teacher at Government Higher Secondary School No.1 Rajjar.

For Mohmand district, Aslam Khan and Neelam, who are also principals, have been nominated as focal persons. Iqthidar Ali and Ishrat Jabeen have nominated as focal persons for Khyber.

“The nominated focal persons are requested to ensure timely and accurate verification of all required documents of the appointed staff,” said a notification issued by Peshawar board.

It said that any discrepancies or issues observed during the verification process should be reported immediately to the board administration.
