ISLAMABAD: Students of Islamabad-based government colleges and schools will have eight padel courts and five futsal fields in their institutions.
Padel Tennis, which is a combination of tennis and squash, is gaining rapid popularity in Pakistan. The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) has been developing various sports facilities in Islamabad’s educational institutions.
Out of eight padel courts, work on three is in progress and according to IPC ministry will be completed by the end of July and the remaining in the next three months.
“In a groundbreaking initiative, IPC has embarked on an ambitious project to equip government schools in Islamabad with state-of-the-art sports facilities.
This move, directed by the adviser to the Prime Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Rana Sanaullah, aims to promote physical activity, talent identification, and holistic development among students,” says a press release issued by IPC. It further noted that five colleges will also be equipped with futsal fields, promoting sports and activities.
Similarly, “25,000 tracksuits will be distributed to school kids from Grade 5 to 10, encouraging participation in sports and physical activities. While 115 mind games rooms will be established in public schools, fostering strategic thinking and cognitive development. Comprehensive sports kits, including hockey, cricket, football, basketball, and volleyball equipment, will be provided to school kids in Islamabad schools, read the press release.
It further said that ten boxing rings and ten taekwondo arenas will be set up in Islamabad public schools, introducing students to combat sports and disciplines.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone in promoting sports and physical activity among the youth of Islamabad. We aim to create a generation that excels not only academically but also in sports and extracurricular activities,” said Rana Sanaullah Khan, Advisor to PM on IPC.
Whereas, Secretary IPC Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said: “The Ministry is committed to providing opportunities for the holistic development of our students. These sports facilities will not only enhance physical well-being but also foster teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills.”
DG Sports Board Yasir Pirzada said: “We are excited to partner with the ministry in this initiative. The introduction of diverse sports facilities will undoubtedly uncover and nurture hidden talents among our youth, contributing to the growth of sports in Islamabad.”
