Victim from Bata Pur suffers bruises on face

LAHORE:

A four-year-old student was allegedly subjected to physical abuse by his teacher at a madrassa in Bata Pur after failing to memorise his lesson.

The police launched legal action following a complaint by the victim’s father.

According to an official, the boy, Zulqarnain, suffered bruises on his face after the teacher, Waseem, reportedly beat him for not memorizing his lesson.

Family members alerted the police, but by the time personnel reached the scene, the suspect had fled.

“The child was traumatised, and his injuries were evident,” said the police official.

“We have registered a case based on the father’s complaint and are working to apprehend the suspect,” he said.

A child rights activist called for stricter monitoring of educational centres to prevent abuse. “Corporal punishment is illegal, and those responsible must be held accountable,” said a representative from a local non-governmental organization (NGO).
