SUKKUR: Police produced a Hindu girl, who converted to Islam and contracted free-will marriage, before a court on January 21 in Jacobabad.

The judge recorded statements of the girl and her parents and ordered that the girl be sent to Darul Aman (a women’s shelter) for a few days.

Outside the court, she told reporters: “No one kidnapped me. I left home of my own free will, converted to Islam and married Naseebullah Pathan by choice. My Islamic name is Fatima and I want to go with my husband.”

Meanwhile, Lal Chand Seetlani (president of the Hindu General Panchayat) alleged that Naseebullah had enticed and kidnapped the girl.

Advocate Syed Ghulam Hussain Shah (representing the Hindu family), argued that the girl was a minor. Based on their petition, the court has ordered her to be sent to the Darul Aman in Larkana until her age is verified through a proper medical examination.

Heer Rani, daughter of Harichand, left home a few days ago, converted to Islam and contracted an alleged “love marriage” with a young man from Karachi named Naseebullah Pathan.
