Woman Arrested for Killing her adopted Daughter

GUJRAT: Kamoke Saddar police have arrested a woman and her son-in-law for killing her minor adopted daughter, who allegedly walked in on them when they were in a compromising condition, to conceal their relations.

The body of the seven-year-old girl was found at a deserted place three days after she went missing from Habibpura locality of Kamoke in Gujranwala district.

A resident of Habibpura lodged a complaint with the police on January 12, stating that he had adopted one-year-old daughter of his brother after her mother died, six years ago.

He said that on Jan 11, his wife ‘N’ told him that their adopted daughter, Zohra, had gone missing after she went outside to buy candies. He apprehended that his daughter had been kidnapped.

Acting on the complaint, the police registered a kidnapping case against unidentified suspects under section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code and started investigation.

During the investigation, the police detained Usman (son-in-law of ‘N’), who revealed that the minor girl had seen him and his mother-in-law in a compromising condition, after which they both strangled her to death, fearing disclosure of their relations.

He said that he dumped the girl’s body at a deserted place near a drain on the city outskirts.

A spokesman for Gujranwala police said that the body of the deceased girl had been recovered from a place identified by the suspects, who are in custody for further investigation.

He said that after the suspects’ confession and recovery of the body, section 302 of the PPC would be added to the kidnapping FIR earlier registered by the police, while both suspects would be nominated.

Meanwhile, the girl’s body was shifted to Kamoke Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where doctors conducted an autopsy.

The body was later handed over to the girl’s father.
