KARACHI: Police on November 18 detained a relative of a newlywed girl for questioning after the suspected murder of 17-year-old Zainab, daughter of a police constable, whose body was found in Defence on Monday evening. A murder case has been registered against unknown suspects, while the body has been sent to the family’s hometown in Narowal for burial.

According to police, Zainab — wife of Muhammad Zain — was discovered with a ligature mark around her neck at a residence near Plot No. 7-C, Badar Commercial, in DHA Phase 5, within the Darakhshan police limits. Treating the incident as suspicious, police shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon Dr Samia said, “The death occurred due to neck compression.” Darakhshan Police later registered a murder case on the complaint of the victim’s father, Abdul Jabbar, who serves in the Airport Police Station. In his statement, he said Zainab had been temporarily staying at her husband’s relatives’ home. According to them, she had gone to the rooftop on Monday evening but did not return for a long time. They later found her unconscious with signs of strangulation. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

The complainant alleged that an unidentified person strangled his daughter for unknown reasons and requested legal action.
