Man Gets Life Term in Rape Case

BAHAWALNAGAR: A sessions court in Fort Abbas sentenced a man to life imprisonment on Saturday for raping a minor boy.

Additional Sessions Judge Shahbaz Ahmad convicted Shehzad Ahmad of Khichiwala, who appeared on bail, of committing the offence under section 376-III (rape of a minor or a person with a mental or physical disability) of the PPC.

A case was registered against Shehzad by the Khichiwala police on the complaint of victim’s uncle on Sept 4, 2024, for raping his four-year-old nephew after luring the child to his outhouse. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on the convict.

A spokesperson for the Bahawalnagar police said that effective investigation paved the way for the conviction of the accused. Meanwhile, a local court in Minchinabad sentenced a drug peddler to nine years in jail.

Convict Muhammad Saleem was arrested by the Mandi Sadiq Ganj Police on Feb 25 in a case registered under section 9-C of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997 after the recovery of 1,300 grams of charas from his custody.

Additional Sessions Judge Abdul Quddoos, after hearing the arguments of the defence and the prosecution, announced the verdict and awarded the jail term and imposed a fine of Rs80,000.
