EU Pledges Continued Support for Child Rights

Islamabad: The European Union on Occtober 23 reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard children’s rights and well-being.

During a meeting here, newly-appointed Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis and chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child Ayesha Raza Farooq discussed ongoing cooperation to strengthen child protection mechanisms in the country.

Ambassador Karoblis commended NCRC’s extensive work and noted the EU’s continued support through UNDP under the Haqooq-e-Pakistan II Programme meant to promote human rights in the country.

He also highlighted the upcoming GSP+ Monitoring Mission, underscoring the importance of Pakistan’s progress on human rights and child protection commitments. NCRC chairperson Farooq welcomed the ambassador to his new role and briefed him on NCRC’s recent initiatives and policy efforts to end child marriage, eliminate child labour, ensure universal birth registration, prevent child sexual abuse and address all forms of violence against children in the country.
