LAHORE: A drug addict allegedly attempted to murder his seven-month-old son by slashing his throat with a sharp weapon in the Manga Mandi area. The suspect identified as Nisar Ali was arrested and an FIR was registered against him under Section 324 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). According to police officials and a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Muqaddas Bibi, the family had arrived from Sahiwal to visit relatives in Peer Colony, Manga Mandi. In the early hours of August 1st, Nisar, reportedly under the influence of drugs and enraged over a domestic dispute, forcefully took his son Salar Hussain from the mother’s arms and took him outside.

Muqaddas Bibi, in her statement to the police, said that she chased after her husband, only to witness him slashing the baby’s neck with a knife in an attempt to kill him.

Bystanders intervened and managed to save the infant, who was rushed to Jinnah Lahore Hospital for emergency treatment.

Sadr SP Rana Hussain Tahir commended the response of SHO Manga Mandi and his team. “The suspect, Nisar, is a known drug addict. He committed this brutal act after a fight with his wife and in a fit of rage due to not getting money for drugs,” SP Tahir said.
