Mother, covered in blood, rushed her child to hospital

KARACHI:

A toddler was crushed under a wagon near Jamali Bridge on Super Highway, in front of his mother’s eyes on April 9. The driver’s alleged recklessness claimed the life of two-and-a-half-year-old Farhan. The driver and cleaner responsible for the accident fled the scene.

Chhipa volunteers took the deceased child’s body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The incident occurred near the D7 bus stop on Superhighway, Jamali Bridge. The mother was trying to get off the wagon with her son, Farhan, when the driver, in a hurry, drove the vehicle, resulting in the child being run over. His mother, covered in blood, rushed him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in an ambulance.

Chhipa Foundation spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid said the deceased child’s mother stated she was a resident of Landhi Majid Colony and had come to visit her mother, who lived near Jamali Bridge. The mother said she was trying to get off the Mazda with her son when the inexperienced driver, in a hurry, drove the vehicle, resulting in her child being run over and killed.

The site’s Super Highway police said the driver and cleaner responsible for the accident fled the scene. However, the police arrived, took control of the Mazda, and shifted it to the police station. According to Chhipa authorities, the deceased child’s body was handed over to his family in Landhi Majid Colony after due procedure, while the police are further investigating the incident.

According to statistics released by Chhipa authorities on traffic accidents, a total of 255 people have died in various accidents in the city in 2025, including 195 men, 26 women, 26 boys, and eight girls. In 2025, a total of 3,438 people were injured in traffic accidents, including 2,795 men, 475 women, 127 boys, and 41 girls. In the past 99 days, the number of people killed in accidents involving heavy vehicles has reached 79.
