Victim laid to rest amid protest in Vehari

VEHARI:

Police have made initial progress in the murder case of 4-year-old Noor Fatima in Basti Chand Mari, a village near 13-WB Vehari.

A suspect identified as Dilawar Masih has reportedly been taken into custody.

The Saddar Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, while sources claim that the murder weapon has also been recovered. However, police officials have neither confirmed nor denied the arrest.

Following the completion of Noor Fatima’s post-mortem, her grief-stricken family placed her body outside the District Police Office (DPO) in protest.

Family members and local residents staged a demonstration, accusing the police of slow progress, lack of cooperation, and failure to promptly identify the culprits. Tensions ran high, but law enforcement managed to maintain order.

SP Investigation Farooq Kamiana and DSP Saddar Circle Rizwan Khan held talks with the protesters and assured them of a transparent investigation.

They pledged that if the suspect is found guilty, he will be brought to justice without delay.

After successful negotiations, the family took custody of the body and laid Noor Fatima to rest in her ancestral graveyard. The funeral was marked by an outpouring of grief, with many overcome by emotion.
