Sindh is setting a new example in the country by initiating a revolutionary change for the transgender community in the field of education. The chief minister of Sindh has directed the education department to develop the province’s first-ever transgender education policy.

According to Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani, Sindh is the only province that is not only serious about transgender education but is also actively working on formulating a new policy for it.

He further stated that in the past, the Sindh government had approved a job quota for transgender individuals under the Sindh Civil Servants Amendment Act that allows transgender community to secure government jobs, both on merit and through the reserved quota.

Additionally, for the first time in Pakistan, the provincial government allocated a quota for transgender persons in the local government system as well. The Sindh government is committed to providing fundamental rights to the transgender community on the lines of equality, he said and added that these initiatives by the Sindh government will not only equip the transgender community with education but also enhance societal awareness and uplift the socio-economic status of the transgender community.
